Rugby

Rugby football is a contact sport that originated from a special version of football (soccer) that was played in Rugby, Warwickshire, England. Rugby Union and Rugby league are the main versions of the sport but derivatives of the original sport include American Football and Australian Football. More recently non-contact forms of the sport have been developed such as touch rugby.

The rules differ greatly from that of football, although the pitch is quite similar. Even though rugby union and rugby league have different rules and regulations they have many similarities. Rugby League is perhaps the more widely played, 30 countries in total but it is mainly played in the north of England and Wales. Rugby doesn’t seem to involve the same controversy and unfortunately fame as football does.

It is often said that Rugby is a Thugs game played by gentlemen and football is a gentleman’s game played by thugs. England and Wales both remain some of the best teams in the world, but South Africa and New Zealand both weald teams that are very competitive. The game doesn’t have the same sort of continuation as football but in my opinion is an exhilarating and tactical sport that takes great skill and physical endurance to play.
